tori's muscles ached as her nike clad feet pounded the pavement beneath them. it had been weeks since she'd gone on a run and the pain in her legs definitely showed for it. taking a breath, she ran harder. she pushed her aching legs to go faster, pumped her arms harder to go farther. that was thing tori loved about running; she loved pushing her body to the limit, seeing how fast and hard she could go. it made her feel strong, tough. her muscles would pay for it later, but now, running the course at the park to her full ability, she felt wonderful, as if anything were possible.
as she hit the end of the course- 3 miles- she fell, exhausted, onto the earest bench. she wasn't as out of breath as she thought she would be, but she was definitely getting out of shape. lately, she hadn't had time to run but obviously that would have to change. as her breathing slowly returned to normal, she leaned back to enjoy the scene in front of her. the sun was shining brightly and many families came to the park to take advantage of the perfect day. she smiled as she watched families picnicing and playing throughout the park. It seemed weird that she was watching these families, but their lives looked to be way more fun than hers. lately all she had done was work all the time. she had gotten her associates degree, but couldn't afford to continue to get her graduates. now she was slowly saving up for night classes.
tori was watching children playing with a puppy in an almost hypnotic stare when she felt someone take a spot next to her on the bench. she had been so distracted she hadn't even noticed anyone approaching.

everything in cassidy's house was annoying her. the dripping of the leaking faucet. the neighbors dog barking uncontrollably everytime a person walked by the house. her mother vacuuming. what cassidy needed was to get out and get some fresh air. cassidy grabbed a pullover that her mother had given her on her last birthday, and she headed outside. she had no clue where she was going, but she was sure that anywhere she went would be better than just sitting at home. cassidy constantly needed to move. however, cassidy was not the type of girl who loved to run and do sports. sports were just not her thing, because although she was very athletic, she was also very clumsy.
cassidy eventually found herself at the park. it was a beautiful and peaceful day outside, she loved days like these. these were the type of days that made cassidy so happy to be living in such a beautiful place. when she was younger she used to go out with her family and sit around and picnic. she missed days like those. as she looked around she was families having fun. smiling, she pulled her sweater closer to her. in all honesty she wondered why on earth she was wearing it. it was such a beautiful and warm day, a day where she could easily get buy in a tank top and shorts. sighing to herself she pulled off her sweater, and hung it over her lower arm. now she was in shorts and a light blue tank top.
as she approached a bench she sat down, looking over at another girl who was there beside her. she looked over at the girl who seemed to be tired, perhaps from running. she studied the girl for a moment before realizing that she new the girl. in fact, she knew the girl quite well. as a feeling of stupidity swept over her, she turned to the girl who was named victoria, but cassidy called her tori. "hey tori, how are you," she asked. cassidy had never been good at starting conversations. playing with a loose thread in her shirt, she looked over to what tori seemed to be looking at. from what cassidy could see, it looked like tori was watching a child play with a dog. "aww, they're both adorable." she said with a slight smile.
