& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE ( and it never seems out of place ) Audrey set the box down, releasing a relieved sigh as she put her hands on her back and arched backwards. It was mid afternoon, blue skied and bright, the sunlight filtering in through the window of her new room. Everything was so uncanny... this situation, especially. It wasn't exactly in her plans two weeks ago to be escaping to Hawaii for God knows how long. ' I swear He's the only person who does...' she thought with a frown, looking at the suitcases and boxes around her. There were only a few more, but none that belonged in this room. All of her stuff was here, now, but to just quit would br rude. This wasn't just her trip alone.
"Caden?" she called, pulling her hair out of the ponytail it had been in, shaking her hair out. She sat on the couch, pulling it back as she looked around, trying to get used to the fact that she was actually here. Since she'd stepped off the plane it had been difficult for her to grasp everything. But now that she got some time to actually sit and think... maybe that would help. "Cade I'm... gonna go shopping when we're done getting everything in. We need a few things..." said Audrey, going through her list in her head. The essentials: food, meaning eggs, cereal, ramen, for her... and whatever he wanted. Coffee... cigarettes, for her. But she'd have to buy those then stash them in her purse so he didn't see them...
"Write up a list for me of what you want..." she added, grabbing her purse from the coffee table before her and getting a piece of gum. If she didn't get a cigarette soon, she might start throwing things. "We should get a pizza... can you even do that here? Or just go out, celebrate... if you're up to it?... Where are you, anyways?" A concerned frown invaded her face, and she sat up, listening for signs of movement. Lately, she got this odd knot in her stomach if she didn't see him for a long time... which was foolish really. She'd been trying to talk herself out of it, but the thought and the memories came back to haunt her all too often. While she was afraid to crowd him, she was afraid to leave him alone. Too much had happened lately.

it feels like something is takes over me
moving was a hassle. in many ways. moving within town yes, but moving from the states to hawaii, an even bigger move, but one he was will to take as long as he had a certain long legged blonde by his side. caden relied on audrey more than she knew, more than he knew really. he had been very depressed lately, more so than he had been his whole life. things had been really getting to him especially with his family and having to follow in the family footsteps at his fathers firm. he hated going through school to be a lawyer, he hated working as a lawyer, and he hated working with his father. it wasn't that he wasn't good at his job, it was the fact that it wasn't something he wanted to do. what he really wanted to do was be a musician. and moving to hawaii and getting away from his parents meant he could be that person he wanted and deeply desired to be.
caden was sitting on the edge of the moving truck in the back, with a box sitting next to him, it was one of two more boxes left and the other was on the ground beside his feet. so he didn't hear her when she called his name. nor when she said she was going shopping and to write up a list of the stuff that they needed. in fact, he was no where in hearing distance. he sighed, knowing that this was a big change, but one he was willing to make. audrey was probably the only person he could talk to, not saying he talked much, but she was the person he talked to the most. he has asked her to come with him because he didn't think he was capable of doing this on his own. he didn't think he'd be capable of leaving all that behind to start a new life for himself. to start living life for himself.
he scooted off the back, picking up the box on the ground, then stacking it on top of the other one and headed inside, where he had to walk up three flights of stairs to get the apartment that they had rented together. sure he could have went up the elevator, but it wouldn't help him stay in shape, now would it? no, the actually reason was that his mind was elsewhere, preoccupied about how this living arrangement was going to work out. it had been discussed but would it actually work out? he had never lived with anyone but his family and a couple of roommates in college. never a girl, and never a girl that meant so much to him. did they have to have a bathroom schedule or something? could he run around in his boxer or was that off limits. it had been very clear cut before, seemed easy enough unless the time was actually here.
he finally reached the door in time to here her call his name once again, and ask just where he was. here. he said, placing the boxes down on the floor. what would you like? he asked politely, looking up at her when he stood straight. caden saw that she was sitting down and very much liked to be doing the same, so he walked over towards her, sitting down beside her on the mildly comfortable couch.

& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE ( and it never seems out of place ) Audrey was about to stand up and go look for him, but that was just as he entered, calling out his location. She meant to scowl, but it was intercepted by a small smile. Seeing Caden nowadays was... relieving. That day when she'd walked into the hospital, after he told her over the phone that he had no intention of seeing her again, because he... It did her good to see that he was still around. Yet... it pained her at the same time. Things didn't have to be this way, she felt. She didn't have to be on the edge about his temperment, thinking, as crazy as it sounded, that at any given moment Caden could get depressed and off himself. It sounded extreme but... he tried to do it before. And it scared her.
"Hey you" she said, tossing the pack of gum on the coffee table and flopping back on the couch, "Is that all of them?" The apartment wasn't too big. It was nice, but a decent size for two people. While she had played it all off as no big deal to him, there were many questions and thoughts buzzing around her head. Sure, guys had passed out in her dorm in college and she'd woken up to find guys in towels that her friends had kept over for the night and it was no big deal. While she figured this shouldn't be a big deal, considering they were good friends, she'd thought long on it. She knew Caden well, but this experience would almost be (dare she say it) getting to know him "couple well". The boys in her dorm left. Caden was actually living there. But think about it anymore and he might drive herself crazy.
"I'm making a list" she said, closing her eyes and breathing in a moment, "I'm going to stop by the store... get some things, and I was wondering if you wanted anything." He was such a gentleman, such a kind person, and it struck her every time he walked into a room with her. It never really made sense, why he'd try to do what he did. She just couldn't fathom it... it warped life her view of life, almost. At least she'd been doing a heck of a lot of thinking, she knew that. And all about him. He was on her mind all the time. She almost felt like a parent, the worry and concern she had for him. At least, that's the sense she made of it. "Also, dinner... what do you want to do about that?" she added, glancing over at him, "I'm a sucky cook, unless we're talking pasta. Or cereal."

it feels like something is takes over me
caden knew that he had put audrey in a horrible situation. calling her while he was in the hospital, and her getting there in less time than he thought it would take her. he was grateful that she showed. she really was his only good friend and it showed that she actually cared, when really, he figured if he had actually been able to be successful, no one would have. especially not his family. they thought he was just a mindless worker living out their legacy. the only thing they would have felt is the sting of having to hire someone else to take his place. another mindless drone. even sometimes during the days since, he wished that things had worked out differently and that they had not gotten to him in time to save him. audrey wouldn't be dragged out to hawaii to get away and everyone's life's would have just simply been better.
but audrey wouldn't see it that way. caden had seen her watching him. sometimes when she thought he wasn't paying attention. maybe she was scared that today would be the day that he'd finish himself off. but with her, things felt real again. he could be himself. polite, kind, humorous. other than with her, nothing seemed to be funny anymore. but the doctors said he wouldn't be cured over night. but he had been waiting for it to click for years and years, but it hadn't. so why, when he told a bunch of doctors how he was feeling, did they suddenly have the confidence to say he'd get over it? didn't make much sense, but hey, what did he know about the mental health field?
yeah, that's all of them. he said as he looked over at her. the hard part of bringing all the boxes up was over with, now all they had to do was unpack. it was more time consuming than anything, and right now he didn't want to deal with it. he listened, watching her. he nodded as she spoke. um sure. i'll write them down once you're done. he gave her a small smile, did you need me to come with you? i would be happy to give you a hand. he was always a gentleman, that was just how he was raised. he had once been a great guy to have around until things just got to be too much for him. and audrey? she got to see just a glimmer of the old caden. what he could be if he was happy. but now he was a lot happier than he had been. he just hoped the doctors were right. he'd eventual be happy about everything in his life.
well, uh we could order something if you wanted. i'm not picky. or i could try to cook something. he offered, not sure if she would even think about letting him near sharp objects at this moment in time.

& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE ( and it never seems out of place ) She pumped her fist in the air when he said all the boxes were out of the truck. Thank goodness. No more up and down those stairs. While it was a nice workout, she wasn't one much used to physical activity. The furthest she walked was from a bar to her bed at home back in college, and she was half drunk then, so to her it didn't count. And Caden had actually found her before she got home and helped her... she'd forgotten about that. That was the day she got into a huge fight with her boyfriend for going against his word to be designated driver. The memory put a smile on her face. Funny, how she'd forgotten all about that until now.
Smiling, she tapped her head with her finger, "Ah no need, I'll memorize it all. But..." Audrey hesitated a split second on that answer, a million thoughts running through her head. If she got too excited about him coming with her, he might think she didn't trust him. Which she... sort of didn't. But did... to an extent. And if she didn't and let him stay... well, that could lead to... 'Geez, chill out, will you? she scolded herself, standing and moving into the kitchen so she could distract herself. She looked in the fridge though she knew there was nothing there. "If you're not too tired from carrying all those boxes, sure, but I'm a big girl, I can handle myself out there" she said with a smile, in an attempt to make things lighthearted. She found herself doing that a lot, trying to lighten the mood... in her own way. Audrey wasn't exactly a happy go lucky person, but for Caden? She'd be more than willing to make an effort. Willing wasn't even the right word. She just had to.
Walking over to one of the bigger boxes, she opened it, kneeling to pull out a few kitchen appliances: a coffee maker, a toaster, and a blender. They'd really just packed up everything and left. 'Mom's gonna be so pissed...' she thought, almost with a laugh. This was the first time she'd though about her parents through the whole thing. While they'd always loved and babied Caden, they wouldn't be too thrilled about her packing up and leaving. But she had a tendancy to slightly enjoy pissing her parents off. It was a sick habit... but she had a lot of sick habits. "Cigarettes, right..." she muttered under her breath, mentally re-adding it to her list. Maybe she should write it all down... "I'd trust your cooking over mine any day" she said, standing and walking over to the couch where he was, grabbing another piece of gum. She swore, if she didn't get cigarettes soon... "Its your call, Cadey-babe"

it feels like something takes over me
caden wasn't sure if this was going to be permanent. but he knew he couldn't go back home until he had a better sense of who he was and what he was getting out of life. he wanted to become successful in what he did because he wanted to go back to his father showing that he could manage to do something better than just a lawyer in his firm. he hadn't even spoken to his family since before the incident. he was sure they knew about it, but he hadn't been the one to tell them. and by now, they knew that he had let the lease go up on his own apartment and was no where in the city. no that his parents would send out a search party for him, but they had their ways of knowing.
he had known audrey for a long time. when he had met her, she had a boyfriend and loved to drink. nothing much has changed with her except the boyfriend part. caden had entertained the idea of maybe taking things a step further with them, but audrey turned out to be much more to him than the girls he used to try to feel any kind of emotion with. it had just been about the sex, trying to evoke emotions that had not been there and probably never would. the only time he felt that he had any grasp of emotion was when he was with audrey. she made him feel like he wasn't just a person in this world of millions. like he actually mattered. maybe that went back to acceptance, because she was really only person that would put up with him the way he was. his family wouldn't, hadn't since he turned fourteen and was made to follow the path that every lawrence boy inherited.
he watched her stand up, and walk to the kitchen. he was careful around her now. guarded. he didn't want her thinking he was thinking of offing himself again, but the truth be told, he hadn't really thought about it since he had seen her by his side at the hospital. when she didn't leave him unless she had to and always came right back. he nodded, though he knew she wasn't paying attention to his movements nor could hear his head move. no, i'll go with you. i can grab whatever i need while you shop for you. it will be quicker that way so you don't have to memorize so much. he sat on the couch, not looking at anything in particular and heard her rummaging around in the kitchen, unpacking boxes. caden had tried to grasp the concept that he had taken her away from her family and friends, it hadn't been fair, but she had agreed and now here they were. and he was eternally grateful.
hearing her mutter something, a small smile played on his features as he watched her walk back to him to grab another piece of gum. caden knew how much she loved smoking, though he found it repulsing and let it be known to her what he thought about it. he had tried his best to make her stop to no avail.

& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE ( and it never seems out of place ) 'We sound just like a married couple' thought Audrey, entertaining the thought with a smile. It wasn't a foreign thought to cross her mind. People had said it to her, and she had thought it before. They sure tended to bicker like one: snappy and such, but always with a pinch of affection. Her attitude towards him was... generally affectionate. Granted she wasn't the most affectionate person in the world, but she was more affectionate with him than with anyone else, her parents included. She didn't wince when she hugged Caden, and she gave him pet names, though that was a basic thing with friends. Caden got the pleasure of being her personal pillow whenever she was sleepy, drinking, or unhappy.
Speaking of drinking, she added alcohol to the list. And something simple, for now, some sissy drink like Smirnoff Ice. Something she could drink without passing out every night. Unlike Vegas, she wanted to remember the majority of this trip. Audrey looked at him a moment, smacking on her gum until she realized how obnoxious she was being, and that she was staring. Her mind had gotten caught up in analyzing him, and she forgot that staring at someone wasn't really normal. Or polite. "... You're doing okay?" she asked, her voice softening as she tilted her head, feeling a bit silly asking. He seemed perfectly fine, but it wasn't until after the incident, looking back that she'd realized he was showing signs of depression before. Hopefully he wouldn't take it as... pushy or something. She just wanted to double check that he was okay, emotionally, with the move, physically... anything. Everything. They hadn't really talked about anything but the move since, and she wanted to make sure everything with him was in check.
"We should... celebrate soon. Go do something." she added, offering a smile, "I think we deserve it, even if we're not done unpacking. And we should make a to do list... things we want to do while we're here." She bit her lip, and sat by him, hoping she hadn't said anything to make him suspicious. While she wanted him to know she was there, and cared, she didn't want to seem... too there, if that made sense. There was a careful balance she was constantly trying to find, and it felt like a very tedious act to accomplish. Once upon a time she could feel relaxed around Caden. But once upon a time, she would have never thought Caden would do what he did.

it feels like something takes over me
caden didn't mind being anything to audrey because she was already so much more to him. she was much more than a friend, she was a best friend of sorts. he told her things, well more things, then he told anyone. he share his bed with her on many occasions. not to have sex with her, but because they both needed that contact. it was nothing sexual, though it might have crossed his mind a time or two, but that was simply because he was a guy. what straight, sane guy wouldn't think about things like that when a hot girl was in their bed? caden couldn't think of any, and the case rested. they were an odd couple of people. but then again, they had an odd situation. his other friends back home had noticed how the two were, even teased him about it a little. but caden always brushed their comments off. his connection with audery was so much more than just a pure everyday friendship. but it wasn't a romantic fling either.
he watched her smack her gum. he was used to it by now. when she didn't have a cigarette in her mouth she has gum. he's much rather hear the smacking of her gum instead of smell the smoke of her cigarettes. it wasn't like he much mind the habit it was just something he found to be repulsive. it was disgusting and he didn't think he could ever kiss a girl that smoked. it seemed like their breathe would smell the same way. caden picked on her about, trying to advocat her not to smoke, but to no avail. she continued to do what she wanted to do and there was no stopping her. except tell the people who rented them the place that there were no smokers so they would charge them extra on the rent. he wondered briefly if he had told her that yet or not. he made a mental note of causally bringing it up somehow soon.
then audrey asked him if he was okay. he had been getting this question ever since they had left the hospital. and though, sometimes it annoyed him when people asked him that question, he always answered politely. caden gave her a smile, i'm fine. just hungry. if we don't get something soon i might get scary. he chuckled at his light attempt to make a joke, which she probably might have found funny. he knew that she worried about him, and he was perfectly happy with that, at least someone did, but he just didn't want it to control her life. she had her own, one she could do whatever she wanted, be with whomever she wanted. she didn't want her stuck with him all the time, or worrying about him while she was out. she would grow to resent him and he never wanted that.
he nodded his head. yeah, celebrating sounds good. he agreed, then trying to figure out what they hell they were gonna go. he smiled at her as she sat beside him. he snaked an arm around her waist, pulling her to his chest. we have as much time as we need to do whatever we want here.we can make a list after we figure out what we're gonna do for dinner. call in a pizza maybe? or find something to cook. your call. he knew that she was anxious about staying in hawaii with a potential nut case, but he hoped she still felt safe enough with him to still be his friend. to still trust him. he smiled at her, feeling the warmth from her. it felt surprisingly nice, even if he was still hot from moving all those boxes. what are you thinking about wanting to do here anyway? he was curious. was she going to drag him off to do things as to keep him busy so he wouldn't have time to think about things? or was she being sincere?

& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE ( and it never seems out of place ) Audrey gave a small laugh, happily not forced when he talked about being hungry. That she could empathize about. It wasn't enough that she hadn't had a cigarette in way more time than it needed to be, but she was starving. She might not have been a very big girl, but she was blessed with a good metabolism. That, and there was rarely a moment in which she wasn't moving, unless she was drunk or something, then she'd lay around like a fat content cat. Needless to say she ate a lot. A whole lot, so much that her father "didn't need a son to clean the fridge for them", as he would often chuckle and say. But she was an eater, a stress eater, a boredom eater, and she was used to snacking throughout the day, but today she hadn't had the time to snack... and it was catching up to her.
When he put his arm around her, she instantly went into snuggle mode, curling up against him and even closing her eyes for a moment. She was a hugger, and a good trait she that came to mind when she thought about Caden was his arms. She liked guy arms, but not all guy arms gave good hugs. Caden's did, which she used as an excuse to cuddle with him more often, to herself. It sort of helped that he was an attractive guy. She loved having attractive guy friends... they were almost a pride thing, sad to say. That's what she'd done in college at least. She tended to flock to attractive guys, not for sleeping with, but for the cuddling benefits and the ability to stare down girls who were eying her "men". For no other real reason than a confidence boost, really. Ah, college days... but Caden had grown to be a better friend than that. Not that she ignored the benefits. "...let's go somewhere. I'm too hungry to go on a 'what can we cook' scavenger hunt. We can make the list while we're eating, then go buy stuff so our stomachs are full and we don't end up buying things we don't need" she said, coming to a decision. She noticed that he was warm from being outside still. It was hot as hell in Hawaii, but she wasn't about to move. He was too comfortable.
"Hell, Cade, we're in Hawaii..." she said, taking a moment to absorb what she said, "I mean... we're not just visiting, we're sort of hiding out here for awhile" She glanced up at him a moment, then sighed, closing her eyes again, taking the moment to enjoy being at rest., "I mean there's a lot of sights to see, we've got the beach within walking distance of here, there's helicopter tours, rent jet skis, even go on a cruise or something... oh, Cade, we could totally see a luau! And they've got nightclubs and stuff... and a girlfriend of mine said she went ziplining... but we can take it slow, relax a bit. Every day doesn't have to be action packed, you know, you came here to get away... work on... music and stuff" When Caden had told her he wanted to work on music again, she'd been more than overjoyed. He hadn't talked about his music since college, and she'd seen, even in their few conversations, that he had a true passion for it. She smiled to herself. This trip was going to be really, really good for him, she could feel it.

it feels like something takes over me
caden was very familiar with audrey's appetite. she ate all the time, she ate more than him mostly and that was surprising because he could shovel it back. they probably would need to both find jobs to support their eating habits. his arm around her reminded him a lot of when they would hang out in his dorm. always snuggled up together when they watched a movie on his twin bed. that was an odd time for caden because, sure he enjoyed the parties and the women and the booze, he knew he was about to end his life by becoming what his father wanted him to be, a crummy lying lawyer. but as it was, sitting her with her cuddles up against him felt nice. and it would have been nicer if his stomach wasn't growling at him to feed it. he was all about getting some food in his system, then maybe they could tackle some of the unpacking that they had to do. his body hurt just thinking about it. lugging those boxes up the stairs had not been fun, and he couldn't imagine unpacking them would be either.
he smiled at her suggestion. oo lets do, before i turn into a cannibal and eat you. he chuckled. caden smiled as she got up from the couch, carefully, as not to hurt her while he pulled away and turned to offer his hand to her, pulling her up to her feet. it was really good that he was comfortable with her as friends or this whole running away business wouldn't have been so smooth. hell, they probably would have been fighting the whole time and it wouldn't have been fun for either one of them. and he probably would have went back to his father, worked a little while more before he actually succeeded in ending his life the next go around. he wondered what where he would have been if audrey hadn't been in his life. that was a hard things to think about because she was the one that kept him grounded most of the time. he probably wouldn't have attempted a long time ago, if she hadn't been there to let him breathe and live a little life.
he knew that they were in hawaii because he had picked the place. he smiled at her sentence. i know. there were a lot to see, but at this moment in time, he felt so tired that all he wanted to do was to either sit on the couch with her or lay in a bed with her, watching a movie. relaxing. nothing that required him to move or think.wow, that is a lot of stuff you've thought about doing. and i'll make sure we do it all before we leave. we'll make sort of a mini bucket list. he smiled, liking the idea. he liked adventure and anything that took him out of the boring everyday life stuff, he was game for. he did need to work on his music and he had been writing a lot lately. he even had talked to a recording studio to record some of his songs to put to an agent. caden was really ready to prove himself to his family and to himself.
music made him love life again. and that was what this trip was about. his passion. and hopefully, on the road to working on that, he'd figure out what else in life made him happy. having audrey as a friend was helping a lot because he wasn't alone like he had always felt. well what do you plan on doing here while i'm working on music and stuff? he asked, curious now what she'd be doing without him.

& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE ( and it never seems out of place ) Seeing him smile made her smile back. It dawned on her... she really liked his smile. He'd smiled at her when she'd walked into the hospital that afternoon, though it was such a sad, puppy dog sort of smile. To see him happy did her good. "Turn into a cannibal and eat me..." she said thoughtfully, leaning back on the couch with her hands behind her head, "Ya know I might not actually mind that" She gave a cheesy grin to give away the joke, then allowed him to help her up, grabbing for her purse. Outside the window, not too far away at all, she could see the ocean below. The peace of everything just made her smile as she basked in it. No stress, no major responsibilities... this hadn't happened since the summer after her senior year of high school. And who better to spend it with than Cade? She couldn't have imagined a better set up, so the fact that it was happening hit her over and over, making her happier and more blown away than before. It was almost like college, without the homework. An endless college Friday...
When she'd agreed to going with him, she had researched like a madwoman for activities, and dropped questions to friends, but not so obviously that they got suspicious. She actually hadn't told anyone until the last possible second... probably because her closer girl friends would try to talk her out of such a risky move. They liked Cade, but news got around and they'd heard what had happened to him. If they had heard that she was running off to Hawaii with him they might have had a convention for her. But she'd gone crazy, writing lists, events, tours, schedules. Then she realized, a few days before leaving, that she was hardly preparing for a vacation. One of her problems was that sometimes? She forgot to have fun. For people who knew Audrey, the club hopping, bar familiar party girl, that might have seemed impossible, but when she got excited about something, she almost required it to be perfect, and got almost obsessed with trying to make it so. One way Caden had been good for her was making her feel silly for freaking out about anything. If something bothered her? She felt stupid about worrying less than five minutes into their conversation.
"Miami bucket list..." she said, putting her purse on her sholder and smiling, nodding to herself, "Yeah... yeah, I like that. I'm gonna get a piece of paper and write that really big on the top, and we'll make it and stick it on the fridge, and on days we don't feel like being lazy bums, we'll take a look and pick something" At this point she was absolutely beaming, trying to think of the biggest piece of paper she could get without going through a lot of unpacking. Already she was getting into that mode, her mind formulating the best and most efficient way to organize the list, format the list. It wasn't a wonder that she drank to much, her mind was on super speed every minute she was sober. Smoking and drinking had become a way to cope... and while she wasn't proud of it, she didn't see any other way to make the stress and pain constantly plaguing her mind to go away. Not at the moment, anyways.
When he asked about her, Audrey stopped, looking thoughful. It wasn't something that had escaped her mind. When Cade was sleeping on the way over, she'd been thinking of that, staring out a window. Biting her lip a moment, she looked to him and said, "Well... I'll probably relax for a bit at first, get to know the place. I might pick up a job so I won't get too bored, something part time, nearby and easy.... I'll probably go to a bar if you're sucked into something and entertain myself. Don't you worry about me, Cadey babe... this trip is for you, you need it more than I do." A smile flickered over her face for a second, but felt a strange surge in her chest. She looked away and went into business mode, almost frowning from concentration as the gears in her head spun faster and faster. "I'm thinking the job thing's a high possibility, though between us we probably have enough to live here for a few months, but it doesn't hurt to work, don't want to get too lazy... and for certain activities it'd be good to have some extra. Don't worry about getting a job, I'll handle that, you just keep writing music, that's what you're here to do... and I could start looking for places for you to submit stuff..."

it feels like something takes over me
he had been joking about the cannibal thing, but something in her eyes made him think of something totally different when she was joking about it. he gave off a little chuckle, wondering if he had maybe stepped into something inadvertently. he watched her as she took his hand, and he helped her up. caden rather enjoyed humor, though he hadn't much of it when he was stuck in that lawyer job. even the thought of it made him cringe. he watched her grab her purse, he wondered what she was planning to do. what they were going to eat. his stomach was growling softly and he was sure her's were too.
this was going to be an epic vacation. he would be able to write music and be with one of his good friends in the process. she could give him feedback and he could learn from a fans prospective what was good and what wasn't. because lets face it, audrey was his fan whether she liked it or not. he hadn't really thought about anything else but doing his music when he got here. he just wanted to relax and get to the point where he enjoyed life a little more. he knew that she had made all these plans, because he knew her. she was probably the only person in the world that he knew like that. and that came from years of college and even after. they seemed to be held together with something, though he wasn't really sure what that something was. most people would have left him when he had attempted suicide. like most of his friends did, because they didn't want to deal with it. but he knew, calling her, she would come running. because no matter how much both of them denied it to anyone else and to each other, they did really care about each other.
he was rather proud of his bucket list idea. and since she seemed to like it too, it made caden smile. he had suggested something right. you do that. but we can do it on the way to pizza. he guided her out the door of the apartment, holding her by her waist, until dropping his arm and pulling the door shut to lock it with the key. he loved being around the girl, but sometimes she went of on tangents and it was hard to get her to focus back on the matter at hand. he smiled at her as she begin to talk. he noticed the way her hair moved softly in the breeze and she bit her lip while she was thinking. it was cute. he knew that this trip was for him but he didn't want audrey to be bored and not have anything to do. or resent him for making her come and not have anything to look forward to. but if he knew audrey, she could occupy her time somehow.
caden smiled. a job? mmm he hadn't thought about that. he thought that he'd have enough money to pay the bills for them, because, lets face it, he was loaded. but it did occur to him just then that she didn't know that. i think i've got everything covered. i was the one that made you come on this trip so i have everything. you just enjoy yourself and do whatever you want. as long as some of that time is spent with me, i won't protest at all. the reason why he has asked her to come was because he felt more like himself around her and he wasn't ready to let that part go. even if she was only staying with him now out of pity.

& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE ( and it never seems out of place ) Even when she stopped speaking, her mind was spinning with ideas. She went into an almost blank stare as he led her out the door, knowing that in this mode she would have wandered back into her room and made a page full, front and back, of vacation plans and they'd never get to a restaurant at a decent hour. When he said "I think I've got everything covered" she snapped out of it, blinking back into reality and smiling. Again, she felt silly about almost freaking out again. Of all things on vacation, she had to start to worry, and Caden, once again, made her see how ridiculous she could be about planning things out. As much as she acted like she didn't care, she was a perfectionist, a blessing and a curse. When he said, basically, that he was paying for everything, she almost went into freakout mode again. She couldn't have him do that! He was on vacation, and no matter how close they were, she would not have him supporting the both of them. He had just gotten out of a terribly hard time and it wasn't an option.
Audrey opened her mouth to protest, but when he said the only thing she had to do was spend time with him... well. Her mouth snapped shut, and she frowned a moment, trying to think of some argument, some comeback... but it made sense. After everything he went through, money probably didn't seem that important, even though he hated where it came from. A person like that probably only wants someone there, someone who gives a shit that they exist. But Audrey gave much more than a shit. She gave more than a million shits. She mentally decided it was her goal this trip to show Caden that someone cared. She cared, and he mattered. And not only to her... to everyone. He could benefit the world so much with his music, and she knew that from a few samples from college. If just that was enough to tell her... he had somehting special, that was for sure.
"...I will. You're stuck with me, remember?" she joked with a smirk as she stopped at the car and looked at him, feeling the moment was almost too sweet. Audrey wasn't good with the sappy feel good stuff, even with Caden. She got embarrassed and left as soon as possible when her mom burst into tears looking at her toys the day she went off to college. That was stuff she wasn't good at. Anything cutesy. Anything emotional. Anything that made her vulnerable. "I'm just happy we're here..." she said, the words feeling clumsy on her tongue. She hesitated a moment, then hugged him, briefly, before turning and getting into the car. Day one... this was it. They were here. What was in store she could only guess... no, she could barely guess. She just had a really good feeling that it was going to be perfect, in its own way. A really good, good feeling.
